Workshops

Workshops

Ciao a tutti!!!

Giuse e Mattia – workshop dai 18 anni in su

ENGLISH

Our day started very early as we wanted to spend as much time as possible with the families of Coimbatore who hosted us. We spent half a day immersed with them in the Indian culture, and it was an unforgettable experience. We learnt many things - for example, it is the custom to take off your shoes before entering the house and that is what we did! The dinner consisted of many different Indian foods and dishes: rice, pulao dal, vegetables, yogurt, fried cabbage, nuggets, gilabli pickles, ambhar, dosas, kheer… all served on a banana tree leaf. The afternoon was a golden opportunity to make ourselves one with them.

Some visited a local Hindu temple, whereas some of us visited a mosque with our hosting families. There we experienced the solemn acts of prayers, which manifested itself as the mystic spirit of these people.

Around four o’clock we all met together at the Avinashilingam University for Women for the Coimbatore Peace Festival. We hope that the photos are able to portray how extraordinary this special moment was for us all. The Youth for Unity, students of the University and all the guests who had arrived for the occasion (who numbered more than 1600) joined together for an inter-religious open air moment; then a pact to commit ourselves to and to nourish peace was made by all. We then returned to the main auditiorium where the peace festival was being held. We listened to the important words of political and religious leaders such as Dr Alan Nazareth, who recalling the words of Ghandi “Stand for the truth in love” linked these words to the Beatitudes of Jesus.

The afternoon continued with waves of diverse emotions and experiences as thanksgivings and official awards were presented to many. Traditional and contemporary Indian dances and music were performed, causing the hall to vibrate with the force and colours of the dances!

FRANCESE

Supercongress2009 pomeriggio

English

In the afternoon Sports for Peace team organized games for all of us. It was a chance to meet those we hadn’t met before, and though we come from different cultures and don’t speak the same languages, we were able to live out the golden rule through team working and sports.
At 4 o’clock the programme resumed with more dancing, singing and enthusiasm. The standard of performances got higher and higher and it was visible through the effort the young people had made in their practices that they are committed to building a united world.
The experiences of breaking down religious barriers given by Sikh gen from Ireland and a Muslim gen from the Philippines were particularly moving. The day ended with a bang, as the Indian gen accompanied by flag bearers and some European gen danced to an encore ‘Follow the Light’. Thank you for all your unity, you were all here with us!

Alcune impressioni...
Inglese
M.Dharadski (13 years old) – Shantri Ashram
I came to the Supercongress because I want to meet many people from different countries, to interact with them and to learn about different cultures.
I am here also because to change things around I have chosen the way of unity, that is unity and diversity.
When I go back to school I will share this experience of unity with my friends.

G. Gomaki (13 years old) – Shantri Ashram
This is my first Supercongress and I came to know what is really this “happening”, to experience the freedom of young people united. I want to introduce myself to the others and share this experience with them in order to understand unity better. I hope I will then bring to my friends, the awareness that all this is possible: I share my life with you, you share my life with me and we build peace! I already think that I will miss you all here after this week.

M.Dharadski (13anni) – Shantri Ashram

G. Gomaki (13 anni) – Shantri Ashram

Supercongresso 2009 mattina

English
Finally the day has arrived, and we are halfway through our Supercongress! It has been a fantastic morning so far, and you can really feel the Golden Rule coming alive in everyone. As one of the Teens for Unity said onstage “Together with all of you we would like to show the world, that Unity is possible.”
There were around 2000 people in the congress and at least 250 of those present were Gen 3. The congress opened with a peaceful inter-religious moment and then the MCs took over presenting the various countries through a SHOW of flags followed by choreographies, songs, dances and experiences of the different countries. The Gen from Bombay brought such amazing energy to the event, with enthusiastic renditions of the Supercongress theme song; ‘Follow the Light’ and the bouncy number entitled ‘Reach Out.’ Experiences about preparations to get here to India were also shared; Sam and Eleanor from England spoke of the various sacrifices they had to make just to get here and some Indian girls said how they managed to postpone their exams in order to come. Another particularly moving moment was when Pascal from New Zealand told us about how he met the Focolare, and how he practiced using the Golden Rule. The Gen from USA gave us a spectacularly intricate stomping choreography, and the song ‘Golden Light’ sung by the Teens for Unity from Ireland hit a favorable note with everyone. The contributions of the youth from the Shanti Ashram were a luminous expression of the beauty of this country and each of their words were so much in tune with ours. The message of Maria Emmaus Voce was truly coming alive and taking shape as a reality in the hall – “ Do unto other whatever you would have them do to you…this is the secret that will allow you to find happiness and then bring it to others.” After a short presentation of the gifts of specially designed artistic post cards and stamps to Nadia, Agostino, youth members of the Focolare and dignitaries of India who had made a particular contribution to the event from Vinu of Shanti Ashram, the Congress closed for lunch, and will resume its live link up with the rest of the globe at 4pm Indian time.

The Super congress ceremony was an amazing one, great to start off such an amazing and unique experience. It was colorful, fun, exciting and really uplifting. From these performances, I really felt how lucky and privileged I was to be here in India. I hope that the afternoon session will be as fun and enjoyable and that I will be able to look back on this as a great experience of my life. I think that now that I have seen how passionate all these people are, I can take that enthusiasm home to Australia, to unite all the Gen 3s who could not make it here.

Impressioni a Caldo

Versione Italiana

Versione Inglese
Francesco- The strongest reality I experienced in the auditorium this morning was one of unity amongst all of us young people.
The reciprocal exchange of songs, music and dances was a vehicle for communicating to each other the gifts of our cultures, languages and religions and at the same time a celebration of our common enthusiasm and commitment to live for unity.

Maria Chiara - Now that the first part of the Congress is over I feel full of a new found enthusiasm to continue this magnificent experience.
The performances of the young people along with the words of the various leaders, which communicated to us all their joy and determination was felt so strongly.
It was and is a unique occasion for convincing both oneself and everyone that a united world is possible.

7 Agosto 2009

7th August 2009

The Supercongress is just around the corner, and here in Coimbatore the Kumaraguru College of Technology is filling up with young people from all over the world.
There was a great start to the day: at 9:30 we were all in the auditorium, gen and young people from the Shanti Ashram for the inauguration of the Supercongress.
The organisers of both movements were on the stage to greet and welcome everybody but above all to witness to the unity built during all the preparation. Representatives of the Kumaraguru College and the Mayor of Coimbatore were also present.
The words of Vinu (Shanti Ashram) and Nadia (Teens for Unity) expressed what each of us have in our hearts: the united world is already present among us.
A very significant moment was the lighting of the lamp for the opening of this event according to Hindu tradition.
Today however, this lamp has also symbolised the mutual love needed to build unity with everyone. The logo of the Supercongress wishes to express this same reality.
The rhythm of the music, the variety of the colours and everyone’s joy and enthusiasm gave us a taste of what will take place tomorrow.

Today the day continues with rehearsals and sport among everybody.

On Monday 3rd August, the Gen of Mumbai helped us to penetrate and understand their culture even further, our first stop was the vast laundry of Mumbai (where over 5000 employees handwash clothes in separate open sinks.) This demonstrated the effort and commitment of a people driven organisation. As opposed to using computers or technologies, their system is based on numbers assigned to families; laundry is successfully collected and delivered around the city areas without any mistakes.
For Mass, we went to the Cathedral of the Holy Name, a church where Chiara herself had been. Near the Cathedral there is a small restaurant which was been attacked last November along with several hotels in Mumbai. There the Gen encouraged us to try the typical Indian dish of Chicken Tikka with green curry. Our tour concluded with a trip to the Gate of India and a stop in the busy station called Victoria Terminus, where we admired the Gothic style of the building.

Tuesday 4th August
We are now writing to you from Coimbatore, where we have all arrived. At the airport we received a traditional Hindu welcome from some Hindu youth – they put ‘ thilagam’ (the red dot) on each of our foreheads. With them we arrived at Kumaraguru College of Technology, a bustling campus built in the traditional Indian style in 1984 by Doctor Mahalingam, (the college is atteneded by students of all religions.) The hospitality was second none, everything including the smallest details were thought of: this is the expression of the Indian creed that the guest is sacred. That is what was written on the gift we received upon arrival at the airport: “ In the true Indian spirit we consider you our guest an expression of the Divine. Athiti devo bhava!” We too are preparing a warm welcome for all the youth who will be arriving over the next few days.

: I have been a Gen since I was born and I have always liked Chiara’s ideas. I was lucky enough to be involved in the early preparations for this Supercongress already in Rome. We worked on the General programme and I felt a real responsibility towards the Supercongress in Rome. Therefore, I understood it was important to do my best in each moment. My expectations of the Supercongress are that it will be a unique moment in my life, to see so many different cultures united under one ideal – the Golden Rule;

There are 9 Gen 3 from Great Britain, we spoke to two of them about their experience in regards to the Supercongress. They told us how they had prepared for coming to India, and their expectations about the Supercongress.
Stuart: Many of us had to fundraise to be able to come to India. However, we knew that it would be worth the effort and therefore got straight to work. Some of our financial efforts included cooking and selling an Indian meal to the public, organising a sponsored bike ride, and finally numerous bag packs. Also, a women from Cafod came and gave us a useful talk on what to expect like the slums, poverty and the overwhelming hospitality we would receive.
Sam: yea, everyone has been so welcoming, despite difficulties such as the heat, or some difficulties with understanding everyone’s accent. However, we both feel that the Supercongress is going to help our understanding of Eastern and Indian life even better, and we can’t wait for the Supercongress now!

We also interviewed Donatien ( 17) who has been involved with some of the preparations for the Supercongress.
Donatien: I wanted to come to the Supercongress, not only because I had never been to one before, but because I felt it would be a good way to see and live a different way of life whilst improving my English. To participate in a Supercongress is a smashing experience. At home in France, we made a short dvd about our activities with the teens for unity over the last two years. I brought it with me to share it as a gift for an exchange of experiences.
I have noticed that the Indian Gen are very friendly. They have been so open from the start, teaching us about cricket which is huge there, and they took us shopping in Mumbai.

In paradiso saremo così.

2nd of August
We received another insight into Chiara’s diary:
“Today we are celebrating the feast of the Mother of God. I asked the Eternal Father during Mass to fashion each one of us… into the image of Mary so that we might ultimately become another Her. She is the model for our lives. In Heaven we will be like Her.
But what has the Holy Spirit taught us about this in the rich story of our Ideal life? We have above all contemplated Mary all clothed in the Word of God. Therefore, it is only when we are living Word that her image is imprinted in us”
.
Today we met with all of the Gen and members of the Focolare who have been preparing for the Supercongress. We soon bonded by sharing our many experiences in regards to working for this Supercongress. This was exactly like experiencing the very words that Chiara herself spoke about in her diary.

Salut a tous !!

No paraíso seremos assim.

Ciao a tutti!

Hi everyone, here in India the adventure continues…
Yesterday was a special day. We started reading extracts from the pages of Chiara’s journal from her visit to India in 2001; it prove a strong base from which to start from as everyone found themselves agreeing with her experience and her words:
“I have left Rome for Mumbai. In my soul, a single idea: to love. To love, to love all my neighbours and to count all the acts of love like a Gen 4 in order to encourage myself. Because: “ ‘in the world is buried a God who wants to rise up through love.’ ”
It’s strange: in Rocca di Papa, when I look at the map of India it always seems to me very, very far away. Today it’s as though we had walked through a door of one room into another. Just like that!
I have come here to learn about this land by remaining in silence as far possible. I have been trying to learn as much as possible from the Focolarine.
There are many beautiful things…all infinitely mysterious as this country has always been and still is.
Perhaps there is a place here for our dialogue.”
This real experience expresses exactly what we all felt.
This afternoon we followed Chiara’s exact trail in Mumbai: we visited the Shrine of the Blessed Mary where Chiara herself prayed for the Focolare in India. There we ourselves prayed for the success of the Supercongress in India.
An unforgettable moment for all of us was visiting the local orphanage; the Teens for Unity of Mumbai visit there regularly and play sports and games with the children. We were overwhelmed with the amount of hugs, kisses and cheery smiles we received as our welcome. In spite of all their poverty, their loving nature gave us more than we could have ever given them. We left the orphanage feeling both moved and enriched, yet sad to have had to leave them, after developing a profound relationship with them all in what seemed such a short time.

Lá, confiamos o Supercongresso a Maria.

A presto!!

News from Delhi
On the first of August in St Frances’ school of Sales the Youth for Unity attended the Pre-Supercongress 2009.
Coimbatore is 2800km from New Deli, this means that many YUs can’t attend. Therefore this Pre-Supercongress was organised so the youths would be able to get an idea of the Supercongress. An invite was sent to every school in the area.
Everyone showed enthusiasm and satisfaction at the values the Pre-Supercongress promoted and at the fact that it was held in India. We highlighted and displayed the life and ideals of the Youth for Unity, following the adventure that Chiara began; sowing that we live the golden rule in every present moment, and assuring them that we were both united there and would be at the Supercongress. At the end of the event we gave everyone the URL of our blog and the website so they can follow us online, details about the Live link up on the 8th of August and a small book about the golden rule.
Talk to you soon!

A bientôt !!
